We have been advised that the DataCenter housing our servers will be performing maintenance overnight between the hours of 12am to 6am on September 11-13. This will result in outtages to the machines which provide the Web, Email and other services that Nexus provides you. Unfortunately, we have not been given a more precise window as to the outtages. Be assured that during the outtages, any email destined for your accounts will queue at the sending server, and be delivered to your accounts when the servers come back up online again. Email standards dictate that the originating server retry a "missing" connection on an escalating time out cycle, generally configured to begin at 4 hours (however each mail server can override this initial period). We will keep all our clients informed of any changes to this schedule as they are made available to us.

Nexus' Servers are scheduled have security patches applied to them on the weekend of August 25, 2007. No impact to users sites is expected. Downtime, per server, is expected to be less than 15 minutes per server.

We have received some additional information from the network admins concerning the connectivity issues earlier today: Early today, a Network Access Point (NAP) just outside of Kansas City experienced an optical fiber cut. This NAP is on one of the core stream routes between Central Canada and the southern US. Normally, protocols are automatically enacted to reroute traffic around such breaks. At this time, SAVVIS (the network owner) is not identifying why these protocols did not kick in. The net effect of this was that traffic from the central portion of Canada was unable to reach our datacenter (likewise, without the ability to get data to the datacenter, no warning email could be sent to the clients who were affected). East and West coasts of the US and Canada, as well as overseas traffic, were not affected. SAVVIS restored connectivity through a lower capacity link at roughly 10:45 this morning. There is no ETA on restoration of the higher speed link. The above issue, being an issue with transit in the internet at large, was beyond the control of Nexus. Datacenter monitoring showed our servers up and running normally, thus no "alarm" sounded requiring outside involvement. On top of this - the Nexus servers were rebooted between 12:30pmCST and 12:45pmCST today. The purpose of this was to apply an update to the OS for the upcoming Daylight Savings Time changes. Total downtime per server was less than 5 minutes. As a result of this, the server times were of sync for the last few hours. This has been corrected. We apologize for the mid-day reboot - this was not something that we were aware would be happening, and will urge the datacenter to schedule these in the middle of the night from now on. 2006-09-30 18:01:46	UPS upgrade in DataCenter	Warning/Info
The datacenter that houses our servers has scheduled an upgrade of one the UPS system that we connect to, as well as various networking gear required for connectivity. While they do not believe there will be any power disruptions to the Servers themselves, the DataCenter indicates there is a possibilty of network downtime, which should not exceed more than 10 minutes in duration at any time, during these upgrades. This upgrade is scheduled for 2am Eastern through 4am Eastern from Oct 11 through Oct 15. Exact date is not currently specified.

Notice to all Clients As Microsoft is discontinuing support of the Microsoft FrontPage for Unix Servers Extentions effective June 30th, 2006, Nexus Internet Services will be discontinuing offering these services on all new accounts effective today. This affects less than 5% of our existing customer base. All accounts which currently have MS-FPSE in use have been migrated to servers with these servers with these services still active. This has been completed. These accounts have been notified of changes to their login parameters separately. If you have not been notified, and believe you should have been as you are using MS-FPSE, please contact support. All Accounts not currently using the MS-FPSE will have the MS-FPSE disabled over the coming week. Nexus Internet Services Support

In addition to the DNS based blacklists implemented on all servers over the weekend, we have also implemented anti-relay controls on the mail servers. We believe the implementation of these controls will help to reduce the interest in our servers from the particular aspect of society which deals in SPAM/UCE. If you are having issues with sending mail through our servers with these new controls in place, please contact support.
